Health Checks

Health Check Upon registering at the surgery you will be asked to complete a new patient questionnaire. If you are on regular medication for a long term health problem we will ask you to come and see us at least once a year to check your treatment.

Patients with asthma, heart disease, high blood pressure or diabetes will need a regular detailed check-up doing with one of the nurses.

Family Planning

We are able to offer advice on all aspects of family planning.

Cervical Smears

Our practice nurses are able to offer a full cervical smear service.

Minor Surgery

We can arrange to treat a number of minor surgical problems that would otherwise have to wait for hospital treatment.

Immunisations

We can advise you and provide all recommended immunisations for foreign travel. Please see us as early as possible when you need travel advice.

Baby Clinic

Please book an appointment for vaccinations at the surgery. The clinic is on a Wednesday from 2.00 pm-3.00 pm

Minor Illness Advice

Many simple health problems may not need to come to surgery. Colds, coughs, sore throats, tummy upsets and trivial rashes can often be treated at home. You may like to ask advice from your local pharmacist about treating your symptoms. Most pharmacies now have facilities for you to talk to the pharmacist in private.

The NHS walk-in centre on Broad Lane is open every day between 8 am and 10pm. The staff there will be able to advise you and treat a variety of ailments and injuries as well as provide general health advice and emergency contraception advice and treatment.

Additionally Call 111 can give telephone advice if you need it.

Last year the Substance Misuse Services in Sheffield transferred from Sheffield Health and Social Care NHS Foundation Trust’s Sheffield Treatment and Recovery Team to Likewise, run by HumanKind.

Travel Vaccinations

If you require any advice or vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. It is also useful to know what sort of accommodation you will be staying in and any sports or other activities you will be taking part in whilst you are away. Previous health problems will also need to be considered.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment may be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines often have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your vaccination appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.

Our practice nurses will use the information you give us to check on the most up-to-date medical advice for the places you are visiting. This can sometimes take a little while so we recommend completing our Travel Health Questionnaire so that we can have all the information you need ready when you arrive. Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

If you are visiting a malaria zone then we can advise you about the best ways to reduce the risk of malaria. There is no vaccine against malaria, but using mosquito nets with insect repellent sprays and anti-malaria tablets will reduce your risk considerably.

We are a fully accredited yellow fever vaccination centre and can offer this vaccine to our patients and also to travellers not registered with us if they request it. There is a charge for this service.
