Practice Development and Education Meetings
At Charnock Health we are fully commited to providing the best service possible for our patients. Our Doctors, Nurses and all of our support staff undergo a process of continuing medical education where specific skill updates and new training allow all of us to keep fully up to date with new treatments and new services for our patients.
This process is part of our personal development programme and is a key part of the annual appraisal process in which each member of the team takes part. Much of this training takes place in our own time during the evenings, weekends or other times when surgery is closed.
Occasionally it is important that we take part in large city-wide educational meetings where all the GP practice teams come together to meet with local and national experts to take part in lectures and workshops where new processes, treatments and services can be explored and discussed by all practices at the same time. This is known as the Protected Learning Initiative (PLI) and in order for it to work effectively, most of the GP practices in Sheffield will close for routine care so that their doctors, nurses and staff can all attend together and take part in this essential training.
On afternoons when this happens the Sheffield GP Out of Hours Collaborative will take any urgent calls that come in and arrange for any urgent medical care to be provided. Any routine calls or queries will be taken by the practice team the following morning.
PLI events occur approximately 5-6 times a year and usually run for a whole afternoon. They tend to take place on Tuesdays or Wednesdays.
We apologise that on the few occasions when this happens we will not be open for routine queries but can reassure all our patients that help with their more urgent problems will always be available.
